Brockport Student Government announced the postponement of the upcoming Tucker Max lecture in Facebook and Twitter posts late Saturday afternoon.
Max made the initial move to reschedule the event by emailing Programming Director Nick Morticelli.
"When I heard about the awful tragedy that occurred, I obviously felt awful for the victim, her family, friends and the whole SUNY [sic] Brockport community," said Max in an email to The Stylus. "I've had friends die before, and I know the last thing I wanted to do in the immediate aftermath was attend a funny, jokey speech like the one I give, and I assumed everyone at Brockport would be the same way. So I emailed Nick [Morticelli] and told him I'd be willing to move my speech to a later date if he thought it would be for the best for the Brockport community."
Max and Morticelli both said they are trying to reschedule it for November, after the BSG comedian event.
"In the middle of these tragic events, it doesn't make sense to have a comedic lecture," President Samantha Wheeler said.
The lecture was scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 9:30 p.m. in Tuttle North. There were 400 tickets sold through Friday of 1,500 available.
