Men's basketball remain atop division

The College at Brockport men's basketball team is still at the top of the SUNYAC after a 2-1 week, with wins against Buffalo State and SUNY Oswego sandwiched between a loss against SUNY Cortland.The week started on the road against Buffalo State, where a solid attack helped Brockport over the Bengals 74-68. Brockport never trailed in the game, gaining the first lead of the game and holding a 40-33 lead at the halftime mark. In the second half, Brockport continued to hold their lead, leading by as many as 18.

Four players scored double-digits for the Golden Eagles, Jermaine Johnson leading all scorers with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Zach Mctigue and Anthony Hall scored 12 points a piece, and Andy Marchand also assisted in the victory with 10 points.

Friday, the Golden Eagles welcomed Cortland to Tuttle with a crowd of 1,000 coming for the "white out" game.

"It was nice to see all the students come out," Senior Captain Josh Zenkel said after the game. "We appreciate that and we also appreciate their continued support."

The result did not go in Brockport's favor, as cold shooting from outside the arc led Cortland to a 76-68 victory over Brockport.

The Red Dragons held a ten-point advantage late in the first half but Brockport managed to cut the lead down to one before Cortland scored six late points to end the half. Cortland entered the second half much like the first, pushing the lead to twenty at one point during the half, but in the end of the second half Brockport made a big run, cutting the lead to six with less than a minute remaining.

But Cortland sealed the victory by hitting their free throws. Cortland shot 50 percent from the field. The high scorer for Brockport was Gerald Williams with 14 points.

"Cortland just wanted it more than us, period." Coach Greg Dunne said after the game. "We've won so far this year because he outplay our opponents, but for fourty minutes, Cortland came out with a better effort than we did."

Gerald Williams continued his hit shooting Saturday as Brockport defeated the Oswego Lakers 74-68.

Williams scored 20 points in the win, a win that Brockport controlled from the outset, in which they led by as many as thirteen in the first half, holding off a late first-half run by the Lakers that cut the lead to five at the half.

The second half saw the Golden eagles put the game away with a 13-2 run over a three-minute stretch to acquire a seventeen-point lead, a lead that Oswego was never able to touch for the rest of the game.

Other high scoring Golden Eagles were Jermaine Johnson with 17 points, Brandon Williams with 15, and Francisco Lantigua with nine points and six rebounds.

At the end of the weekend, Brockport emerged with a 9-2 SUNYAC record, and is first place in the conference by one game over Cortland.
