Movie Review: Jack and Jill

Very few movies can top the classic Adam Sandler films. Waterboy, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison will always live on in our hearts as the closest to comedic perfection there is. While it's a well-supported argument as his movies haven't quite lived up to what they once were, it's a fact Sandler's still putting out great ones.

His latest, Jack and Jill, is an old and dull storyline about a brother dreading the holiday visit of his twin sister. The twist in this film is the twins are both played by Sandler. Sound cheesy? It kind of was.

Despite the look of it, Jack and Jill elicits intense laughter from those watching. The funny scenes included in the trailer are far from the only ones in the entire movie, as is what commonly happens in short comedies.

The one-liners are what truly shine in the movie. For the most part, it feels like jokes you would tell your friends, such as when Jill is loudly trying to whisper to Jack's wife at the Thanksgiving table. Her comments are rude and extremely unacceptable, leading to Jack's comment, "Are you whispering with a bull horn or something? Everybody hears you!"

Another quote of note between the twins happens when they go to a Lakers game and a man gives Jill his number. When Jack tells her she has to call him, she replies, "Aw will you stop already? You know all he wants to do is play Twister with your sister."

Many critics felt the idea to have Sandler play both parts was a poor one, but if they had found two different characters it would have been one of the worst movies of the year. Watching a man try to portray a woman is what creates many of the funnier jokes.

The point of the movie wasn't for Sandler to portray the perfect woman. Obviously the main point was for Sandler to act feminine in a comedic and enjoyable way.

One of the best parts of any of Sandler's movies is the appearances by all of his real-life friends. It's not a Happy Madison production unless you can spot actors Rob Schneider, David Spade or many others.

Especially unique about Jack and Jill is identifyling Sandler's friends, which proves to be slightly more difficult than usual. You get the prize of laughing until you cry when you come across Spade.

Jack and Jill is far from an Adam Sandler classic. It won't win any awards or sit atop any rankings, but it is a good movie for a solid laugh. It's the type of movie that is so stupid you can't help but enjoy. You'll feel dumb for doing it afterward, but good luck keeping from doing so.
