The men's Brockport basketball team won their first playoff game against Oneonta, 84-75 on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Junior guard Gerald WIlliams led the way with a game-high 21 points as the Golden Eagles advanced to the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament.
Brockport came out fast and was up by double digits early in the first half. They took that momentum all the way to the break where they led 43-32 heading into the locker rooms.
Oneonta answered back in the second half, narrowing the Brockport lead to four points three different times, but they could never get further than that. A highlight worthy alley-oop from sophomore point guard Derek Klein to junior forward Khyheem Green mid way through the second half was the cementing point in a game where Brockport was in charge from the get-go.
Green scored 17 points despite playing a limited number of minutes due to foul trouble. Freshman Jon Ivy also scored 17 while Klein added 12 of his own. Senior Zach McTigue posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Brockport — the No. 4 seed — travels to Oswego — the SUNYAC No. 1 seed — Friday night for a chance to move on to the finals. Oswego won both meetings against the Eagles this year, but Brockport seems to be getting better and better as the season progresses
