Wrestling and winning remain common entities

When it comes to sports, establishing a program that consistently wins year in and year out often proves to be the most daunting of tasks. Even teams who manage to achieve a reputable program often have a few bad seasons here and there, whether it be due to a key injury, seniors departing, players transferring, lack of leadership, lack of talent or just plain bad luck. The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team defeated Springfield College 186.075-183.200 last Sunday, Jan. 23. Their 186-point score was the highest score by any team in the nation this season. Earlier this week, the win proved to be enough to make Brockport the No. (0) comments

SUNYAC rivals violate NCAA Division-III rules

Last weekend was not a surprising one for Brockport's hockey team. The team lost 7-1 Saturday to the high-flying Potsdam Cardinals, but rebounded the following Friday to defeat SUNY Morrisville 5-2. But what was surprising was what transpired within the SUNYAC. (0) comments

The College at Brockport men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell to SUNYAC rival Oneonta this past week on senior night, with the men's team losing 147-93 and the women's team losing 135-99. The following day against Buffalo State, the women defeated the Bengals by a score of 137. (0) comments

The College at Brockport men's basketball team is still at the top of the SUNYAC after a 2-1 week, with wins against Buffalo State and SUNY Oswego sandwiched between a loss against SUNY Cortland. The week started on the road against Buffalo State, where a solid attack helped Brockport over the Bengals 74-68. (0) comments

The Women Golden Eagles have gone through a lot of changes this season, and now their postseason aspirations are in doubt. After a 0-3 week the Brockport Golden Eagles are in ninth place in the conference, two games behind the Potsdam Bears for the last spot in the SUNYAC playoffs. (0) comments

Drew Brees. Adrian Peterson. Larry Fitzgerald. Jared Allen. DeMarcus Ware. All playing on the same team. The Pro Bowl is essentially your ultimate fantasy team come to life. Who wouldn't want Brees handing off to Peterson and throwing downfield to Fitzgerald? It would be the number one offense in the league. (0) comments

So much of sports is confidence and timing. As the season drags on, you want to be sure you've gotten all the moments of doubt and less-than stellar performances out of your system before the heat of competition reaches its boiling point in the post season. (0) comments

So much for having a "down" year in the conference. The Big East Conference in men's basketball has emerged as the best conference from top to bottom. There were many questions entering the season as to which team is at the top of the conference, but a combination of teams that were expected to do well, as well as some surprises, have created a tough decision to determine who is the best. The NBA All-Star game is moving to Dallas this year, and controversy has emerged. The argument, coming from fans and players alike, is that some starters that usually see nothing more than the bench end up recieving the most votes. The voting has been decided by fan popular vote for years and no major controversy has been reported until this year. (0) comments

Sports will always push the limits. Just when it seems the sport can't possibly grow any further, it does just that. Snowboarding was stuck in a state of boring old tricks that had fans and participants yawning. Athletes were winning with the same tricks they used in their run the year before. (0) comments

The New York Jets playoff run ended Sunday Jan. 24 when the Indianapolis Colts outscored the Jets 17-0 in the second half to seal the 30-17 victory. The Jets defense looked promising in the first half with David Harris sacking Peyton Manning twice in the first two drives of the game, but fell apart when it really mattered. (0) comments

The Rochester Knighthawks used an early run to pull above .500 early in the National Lacrosse League this season, beating Toronto 16-8. Rochester started the season 2-0 before dropping two games on the road, a 17-3 loss to Toronto and a l3-8 loss to Orlando. (0) comments
