The 21-year-old man charged with murdering Brockport student Alexandra Kogut pleaded not guilty at his arraignment this morning.
Both the Kogut family and the Whittemore family were in attendance.
Clayton Whittemore is charged with second-degree murder in the beating death of Kogut, Sept. 29. Whittemore, a student at Utica College, kept his head bowed the entire time in the court room and quickly said "not guilty" when asked how he would like to plead.
Kogut, a freshman, was found dead in her dorm room Sept. 29 by University Police. Whittemore was picked up by police in Dewitt, N.Y. approximately two hours after Kogut was found and was charged with her death. The two had reportedly been dating for two years.
Whittemore told a sheriff he "just snapped" and killed his girlfriend with a curling iron, according to court documents. The documents included a list of evidence that will be used in court, which was read to Whittemore and his attorney.
Whittemore's next court appearance will be Dec. 18. He is being held without bail at Monroe County Jail.
