    Ultra-talk poetry examined at Writers Forum

    The Writers Forum hummed with the discussion of an interesting form of poetry known as ultra-talk, a sort of stream-of-consciousness with very little limitation. Poet Barbara Hamby led the discussion Wednesday, April 16, discussing what makes an ultra-talk poem and how her writing process works. A majority of the discussion hinged on Hamby’s larger collection “On the Street of Divine Love,” which features many styles ranging from ultra-talk to Shakespearean sonnets.

    Google hosts conference to shed light on Project Ara

    Google’s innovative new smart phone, after combining Phonebloks with its acquisition of Motorola, was exposed to the public and developers with the intention of getting people excited for the future of modular smart phones. The two day conference, held Tuesday, April 15 to April 16, featured numerous lectures from many of the teams developing Project Ara. Most of the information was geared toward developers, but consumers were also given the chance to follow the conference online in order to learn more about the prospective phone.

    For those who have never been to a Jamaican dancehall, Diplo’s alter ego, Major Lazer is out there to bring the dancehall to you in his latest release “Apocalypse Soon.” The EP hits you hard in full, sweaty, grinding action with influences from EDM, hip-hop and reggaeton. The tracks are an infectious earworm that entices the listener to dance along with guest cameos like Pharrell Williams and Sean Paul.

    Local bar and grill to begin brewing

    "Call to the Unknown" art exhibition makes familiar unfamiliar

    After the success of 2010’s “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites,” thousands of amateur producers spent sleepless nights attempting to become the next Skrillex. By 2011, the entire landscape of electronic music had shifted, and the mechanized bass-quake and distorted vocals in half-time infiltrated everything from trance to rave techno. As bass music kept pushing for the filthiest drops and mosh-worthy builds, Skrillex (Sonny Moore) spent his time on the road developing recording relationships and broadening his production palette. His latest release, “Recess,” reflects those.

    Album Review: This is Your Life

    Since legendary rock front man Ronnie James Dio lost his battle with stomach cancer in 2010, the rock ‘n’ roll community has been struggling to fill the void left by the man who helped lay the groundwork for what the genre is today. In an attempt to fill this void, a group of 12 bands and musicians, all of which are icons in their own rights, banded together to create a record that exemplified the impact Dio had on not only rock, but music in general.

    Students delight at annual performance

    This semester’s DANCE/Hartwell production is an excitingly eclectic representation of the College at Brockport’s dance department. Pieces of all shapes, colors, forms and mediums were featured, including a graduate thesis work and an excerpt of an honors senior thesis.
