Brockport swimming and diving take down Buffalo State

Wins from both the men’s and women’s teams move the both to 6-2

Brockport’s men’s and women’s teams took down Buffalo State Saturday, Jan. 28. The Golden Eagles look to continue their success in their final meet Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Oswego Diving Invitational. Each team is 6-2 overall.

In the penultimate meet of the swimming and diving team's season, both the men and women defeated Buffalo State Saturday, Jan. 28. The men won by a 173-121 score and the women by a 185-106 score.

Senior Chris Austin led the men's side with first -place finishes in the 1-meter — with a 290.25 score — and 3-meter event, with a 248.35. Austin scored a NCAA Division III Championships qualifying mark for his 1-meter dive score.

Divers who receive a score higher than 275 earn a chance to represent their school at the NCAA Championships March 21 through March 24. It was  Austin's second qualifying mark in two weeks. At the team's Alfred University dual, Saturday, Jan. 21, he recorded an 11-dive score of 436.75.

Juniors Nathan Dubois and Kenny Smith also posted two victories each. Dubois raced to first in the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle races and Smith took first in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events.

The duo teamed up with teammates Joe Klafehn and Dustin Wurster to take first in the 400-yard freestyle relay as well.

Junior Chloe MacDonald posted two victories at Buffalo State. She won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:36.28, 20 seconds ahead of second place finished Elizabeth Grillo, also of Brockport. Erin Weigand of Buffalo State finished in 11:59.55.

MacDonald finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:40.51 time.

Divers Marcy Merritt and Audrey Jackson finished first and second, respectively, in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive.

The team finishes its season Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Oswego Diving Invitational. Both teams are 6-2 overall, and placed third at the Geneseo Invitational  Oct. 29 and fourth at the Fredonia Invitational Dec. 2 through 4.

The SUNYAC Championships run Wednesday, Feb. 8 through Saturday, Feb. 11 at Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo.
