The alternative punk band Motion City Soundtrack will headline the fall concert with Cute Is What We Aim For as the opener.

Brockport Student Government (BSG) announced Friday, Sept. 16 the fall concert will be the alternative punk band Motion City Soundtrack as a headliner and Cute Is What We Aim For as the opening act.

The concert will be held Saturday, Oct. 8 in the Tuttle South gym and tickets go on sale at the BSG box office Tuesday, Sept. 27. Students must show their college ID and are limited to two tickets. The first ticket costs $7, the second is $15. Faculty and staff can purchase a ticket for $15.

"We chose Tuttle South because it was the only available venue for us to use," BSG President Kevin Perry said. "The only other option was outside [and to] escape the outdoor weather issue, we chose [to have it] indoors."

Perry said BSG chose Motion City Soundtrack and Cute Is What We Aim For because the two bands ranked high in the online survey BSG conducted in June.

"The survey showed (that), out of all the genres, alternative was the highest," Perry said. "Cute Is What We Aim For was ranked highest on the survey for its price range."

The survey was conducted through www.surveymonkey.com, which Perry said prevented students from taking the survey multiple times. The survey was sent through a campus-wide email at the end of the spring semester, and posted on BSG's Facebook page and Twitter account. BSG also conducted a survey of current freshmen during summer orientation to get as high attendance as possible.

"In the past, many of the bands that have played here have had one or two songs known, or students recognized the name, but many students know Motion City Soundtrack's name and [its] songs," Perry said.

The total cost for the concert is approximately $47,000 with extra expenses included, Perry said. Production for the concert (stage, lights, equipment, etc.) is expected to cost about $7,000, Motion City Sountrack costs $30,000 and Cute Is What We Aim For costs $10,000.

The tentative schedule for the concert is the doors will open at 7 p.m., Cute Is What We Aim For is set to take stage at 8 p.m. and Motion City Soundtrack will begin at 9 p.m. Perry said this may change if another band is hired to open before the two already scheduled bands.

Perry said he and BSG Programming Director Samantha Spisiak have been working since May to plan the fall concert.

"We're counting on a fun time," Perry said.
